Send Andy R5. He’ll pass it on.

Make a real payment, pick who benefits, and see Bob Pay’s new QR+ with PayShap in action. It takes about a minute. R5 is plenty.

Why this site exists. Ask Andy was created to demonstrate Bob Pay QR+, launching with PayShap as its first payment method, and to show how quickly a website can be connected to Bob Pay. QR+ currently works with FNB and Capitec, and other banks will be added as they support it. Every payment is real, every payment is refundable on request, and every rand goes where you tell it to.

I’d like to make a payment, and please direct the proceeds as follows.

POST /v2/payments/intents/link

This is the request our server sends to Bob Pay when you press Pay. The API key stays on the server, so it never reaches your browser. Bob Pay replies with a secure payment link, and you’re sent straight there.

How a QR+ payment works

Three steps, and no card number in sight.

  1. Fill in the form and press Pay

Our server asks Bob Pay for a one-time payment link with your amount, your name and your chosen cause.

  2. Choose your bank, scan and approve

On Bob Pay’s payment page, first select the bank you’re paying from. Only FNB and Capitec are supported for now, and more banks will follow as they add QR+.

Bob Pay then shows you a QR+ code. Scan it and approve the PayShap payment in your banking app.

  3. Money moves in seconds

PayShap settles in real time. Bob Pay notifies askandy.co.za, which checks the payment is genuine before counting it.

Where your money goes

Andy doesn’t keep a cent. You choose the cause, and the description on your payment tells him exactly what to do with it.

A car guard’s tip, with extras

Next time Andy tips a car guard, he’ll add your amount on top and make their day a little extra special.

People with disabilities

Andy donates your payment on your behalf to a registered South African charity that supports people living with disabilities.

Domestic animals

Andy donates your payment on your behalf to a registered charity that rescues, shelters and cares for dogs, cats and other domestic animals.

Endangered animals

Andy donates your payment on your behalf to a registered charity protecting endangered species, such as a rhino conservation project.

Good to know before you pay

  • Your payment goes to Andy Higgins personally, not directly to a charity. Andy then passes the full amount on as you’ve chosen.
  • Because you’re not paying a charity directly, you won’t receive a Section 18A tax certificate.
  • No goods or services are delivered. You’re paying for a good deed and a working demo.
  • Changed your mind? Ask for a full refund at any time. See the refund policy.

Want this on your website? Ask your AI.

Connecting a website to Bob Pay is now a copy-and-paste job. Bob Pay’s documentation is written so that AI coding assistants can read it, so you describe what you want and your assistant writes the code.

  1. Register as a Bob Pay merchant

Sign up and complete merchant onboarding. It’s free to register, and you pay per transaction.

    Register on Bob Pay
  2. Find your API key and passphrase

They’re in your account settings. For testing, create a free sandbox account too.

  3. Copy the prompt into your favourite AI

Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot: any capable assistant will do. Fill in the two lines in square brackets first.

  4. Test in the sandbox, then go live

Make a few test payments, then switch to the production URL and your live keys.

How this site was made. askandy.co.za was built by giving an AI a prompt very much like this one. It produced the payment form, the server code, the webhook checks and the policy pages. Andy added his keys and published it on Cloudflare’s free plan.

Prompt for your AI assistant
I want to accept online payments on my website using Bob Pay, a South African payment gateway. Please build the integration for me.

Read the Bob Pay API documentation first. It's written for AI agents:
https://developer.bobpay.co.za/llms-full.txt

About my site:
- Platform: [e.g. static site on Cloudflare Pages, WordPress, Node.js, PHP, Next.js]
- What I'm selling: [e.g. a R150 workshop ticket, donations, invoices]

What I need:
1. A checkout form that collects the amount, the customer's email address and (optionally) mobile number, plus an item name and description.
2. A server-side endpoint that calls POST /v2/payments/intents/link with my API key as a Bearer token, then sends the customer to the payment URL it returns. The API key must never appear in browser code.
3. Success, pending and cancelled pages for the customer to land on.
4. A notify_url webhook that checks the request comes from Bob Pay's IP address, verifies the MD5 signature with my passphrase and account code, confirms the payment with POST /v2/payments/intents/validate, checks the amount paid, and returns 200 OK. Make it safe to receive the same notification twice.
5. Use the sandbox (https://api.sandbox.bobpay.co.za) first, with one setting to switch to production.
6. Use placeholders for my API key, passphrase and account code, and tell me where to set them securely.
7. Add the pages Bob Pay expects: terms, a refund policy, a privacy policy and contact details.

Then explain, step by step, how to deploy and test it.
